WHAT IS THE AGGROW CAMPAIGN?
AGGROW

The 11 parishes of Alvescot, Bampton, Black Bourton, Brize Norton, Broadwell, Carterton, Clanfield, Grafton/Radcot, Kelmscott, Kencot and Langford have joined together as AGGROW to present this unified statement to their County Councillors and others regarding possible gravel extraction.

Oxfordshire County Council is considering three options for sand and gravel extraction, two of which are in the AGGROW area. Option 1 is to continue quarrying in existing sites. Options 2 and 3 include the quarry sites shown on the map below - quarries that would blight our area from Kelmscott in the west to Bampton and Aston in the east!

The plan is to excavate up to 2.1 million tonnes of sand and gravel in total across the entire county per annum. They may reduce that to between 1.15m and 1.6m tonnes. Nevertheless, can you visualise what that means?

It means, in a site producing 450,000 tonnes per year, there would be 90 loaded lorry trips of 20 tonnes per day, assuming that contractors work a 5 day week. With the unloaded return trips; 180 lorry trips every day. This would be more than doubled by lorries carrying in-fill, equipment, etc.
